Rescue workers are racing against the clock to unearth as many as 200 people feared buried in a mudslide near Rio de Janeiro.

The death toll from massive floods in the region has so far been put at 182.

More than 24 hours after a hillside suddenly collapsed, 16 bodies have been recovered so far.

Dozens of homes were swept away in the slum area across the bay from Rio and firefighters said there was virtually no chance of finding survivors under so much mud.
