Tsunami alert issued after earthquake

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 rattled northern Sumatra in Indonesia, the US Geological Survey reported.

The quake struck at 2215 Irish time (5:15am local time) and was 125 miles northwest of Sibolga, in Sumatra, Indonesia and 880 miles northwest of Jakarta, the US Geological Survey said.
