Villagers have blocked access to river tunnels as they hunt for a python which strangled a boy to death on Sumatra island more than a week ago, Indonesian police said today.

Police Chief Captain Joshua Tampubolon said residents in Percut Sei Tuan in Deli Serdang district joined the search for the 23ft (7m) snake which killed a 13-year-old boy on March 21.
