ETA blamed for police murder in France

Militant Basque separatist group ETA was today blamed for the murder of a French policeman outside Paris.

Spanish prime minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said: “France has paid a high price for its help against ETA.”

He spoke at a news conference called to condemn the shooting last night in the Paris suburb of Dammarie-les-Lys.

Mr Zapatero said he will speak with French President Nicolas Sarkozy, and expressed his condolences to the officer’s family.
