Poker raid suspect surrenders

A man suspected of taking part in the storming of a German poker tournament in which armed robbers made off with €240,000 in jackpot money has surrendered to authorities, police said today.

A spokesman for Berlin police, Michael Merkel, said the suspect surrendered to the Berlin prosecutor’s office.

He did not give any details but said police are planning to release more information later.

German newspaper Bild Zeitung reported that the 21-year-old suspect has been detained since Monday night, but is refusing to reveal where the cash or the other robbers are.

Detectives have been hunting for four suspects armed with guns and machetes, who stormed the poker tournament in broad daylight last Saturday in Berlin.
