Quake hits California

California has been shaken by a 4.4 magnitude earthquake.

The tremor struck near Los Angeles just after 4am local time, waking residents but causing no apparent damage.

Police at the epicenter of Pico Rivera, 11 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles, said there were no immediate reports of injuries.
