South African president Jacob Zuma played down his criticism of Britain’s colonial past today as he held talks with Gordon Brown at Number 10.

On the eve of his state visit to the UK, Mr Zuma accused the British media of thinking “their culture is more superior than others” after comments on his polygamous lifestyle. He has three wives.
