'Meaningful agreement' reached in Copenhagen climate talks

A senior official in US President Barack Obama’s administration said tonight that America, China, India and South Africa have reached a “meaningful agreement” on climate change at the Copenhagen summit.

The official characterised the deal as a first step, but said it was not enough to combat the threat of a warming planet.
