Thousands of police in Athens for riot anniversary

Thousands of police were today deployed across the Greek capital to prevent violence during demonstrations to mark the first anniversary of the fatal police shooting of a teenager.

The death of 15-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos last December sparked two weeks of some of the worst riots Greece had ever seen, with youths smashing, looting and burning stores and vehicles in cities across the country.
