US envoy objects to troop increase in Afghanistan

The US envoy in Afghanistan has objected strongly to emerging plans to send tens of thousands of additional forces to the country, a senior US official said last night.

Ambassador Karl Eikenberry is a former Army general who once commanded troops in the country who resigned his Army commission to take the job as US ambassador in Kabul earlier this year.
