Sarkozy and Merkel to discuss EU presidency job

The leaders of France and Germany are expected to discuss candidates for the new role of EU president when they meet this evening ahead of EU talks in Brussels tomorrow.

Tony Blair has been lobbying hard for the job behind the scenes and the Taoiseach, Brian Cowen, has already said he would support the former British Prime Minister.
