An express train driven by a drunk driver has derailed in south-western Poland, injuring two passengers, police said today.

Police said the train was travelling from Krakow to the Baltic Sea resort of Swinoujscie when it derailed early Tuesday morning near Wroclaw.

Authorities found the train’s driver hiding in a nearby forest. A breathalyser test showed he had an alcohol level far above Poland’s legal limit for operating motor vehicles.

Wroclaw police spokesman Krzysztof Zaporowski said the 42-year-old man was “completely drunk”.

Passengers told TVN24 television that the train began rocking before it came off the tracks.
