Greece 'abusing' migrants

A human rights group urged the European Union to pressure Greece’s new Socialist government into ending the “abusive” treatment of illegal migrants, tens of thousands of whom enter the country every year.

A Human Rights Watch report accused Greece of detaining migrants, including unaccompanied children, in poor conditions, blocking their access to the asylum process and conducting illegal expulsions to Turkey.

Most illegal migrants cross over from Turkey, which Athens accuses of doing little to stop the flow and ignoring a bilateral agreement to take the migrants back.
