The deputy head of France’s main telecoms company has quit amid mounting criticism of the firm’s failure to deal with a spate of employee suicides.

Unions say the formerly state-run company’s restructuring could be to blame for some of the 24 suicides in the last 18 months. It laid off 22,000 people in 2006-2008.
