Pakistan girls' school blown up

Suspected militants have blown up a school for girls close to the main city in northwestern Pakistan.

Police officer Hamdullah Khan said the attackers struck early today on the outskirts of Peshawar.

Northwestern Pakistan is a stronghold of al Qaida and the Taliban.

Islamist militants have often targeted girls school because they believe that women should not be educated.
