US President Barack Obama played the ’working families’ card as he turned to blue-collar crowds to help rally support for his controversial health care overhaul.

He found a receptive audience at the AFL-CIO convention, where delegates to the country’s largest labour federation were passing a resolution calling for changes to health care that include a government-run plan to compete with private insurance companies.
