Lawyers for Burma’s detained opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi said she was in good spirits during a strategy session that finalised 11 grounds for appealing her conviction next week.

Lawyer Nyan Win said Ms Suu Kyi was also allowed to receive foreign news publications for the first time since her latest house arrest started a month ago.

The meeting late yesterday came ahead of next Friday’s scheduled appeal at the Divisional Court in Rangoon.

The lawyer said today that Ms Suu Kyi was jovial and “cracking jokes with us during our meeting”.

The 64-year-old opposition leader was convicted on August 11 of violating the terms of her earlier detention after an American intruder stayed at her home.
