Girl killed after falling from amusement ride

An 11-year-old girl was killed today in the Bavarian town of Ingolstadt after she fell 30 feet (9 metres) from the amusement ride car she was in.

Police say the girl was alone while on the water ride and fell when the ride reached one of its high points.

She died while being transported by helicopter to a hospital in Munich.

The ride was part of a folk festival in Bavaria.

Investigators have said it is unclear how she fell, as it is understood the ride was not malfunctioning and the safety bars were working.
