US troops 'stormed through Afghan hospital'

A Swedish charity accused American troops today of storming through a hospital in Afghanistan, breaking down doors and tying up staff.

The US military said it was investigating the claim by The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan.

The group accused the US Army’s 10th Mountain Division of entering the hospital without permission in Wardak province, south west of Kabul.

The charity’s country director, Anders Fange, said the troops kicked in doors and tied up four hospital employees and two family members of patients last week.

He said the troops’ actions violated the sanctity of medical facilities in combat zones.

US Navy public affairs officer Lt Cmdr Christine Sidenstricker said the military was investigating but she had no other details.
