Acid attack in busy shopping district

Two suspects hurled a corrosive liquid at two pedestrians in a crowded Hong Kong shopping district, also injuring nine others, in the fourth acid attack in the same neighbourhood in a year.

Television footage showed two of the victims being carried to ambulances on gurneys with their heads covered in white bandage.

Police spokesman Chau Yau-fai said the two attackers – one of whom was arrested nearby – targeted a couple strolling through Hong Kong’s Mong Kok district but also hurt nine others.

Assistant District Commander Angela Ng said the couple quarrelled with a man before the attack.

Details on their injuries were not immediately available.

It was the fourth acid attack in the same area in the past year.
