Poll predicts defeat for Japanese government

A newspaper poll projected that Japan’s main opposition party will secure a landslide victory against Prime Minister Taro Aso’s incumbent party in Sunday’s elections.

The poll by the major Japanese daily Asahi projected today that the Democratic Party of Japan will win 320 seats of the 480 powerful lower house seats being contested in the elections.
