One man was killed and two policemen were injured after a terrorist suspect opened fire at a railway station in north India.

The man started firing after two constables from the Government Railway Police’s narcotics division tried to check his bags on the train as it arrived at Ludhiana station in the state of Punjab this morning.

The man reportedly got off the train as soon as it stopped and opened fire, the police said.

A vendor was killed as he tried to overpower the man.

Two policemen were injured during an exchange of fire and were taken to hospital.

The accused was identified as Balbir Singh Bhootna, who was reported to be in his 40s. He was arrested after the incident, which lasted around one hour, according to reports.
