Greece battles wildfires
Greek authorities battling more than 50 blazes warned of more fires today because of strong winds.
The largest of yesterday’s fires, fanned by the high winds, was a brush fire on the western island of Zakynthos, which ignited early in the evening. The area is a breeding ground for the endangered loggerhead sea turtle.
The fire also trapped about 70 beach-goers, both Greek and foreign, who were evacuated by boats.
Winds were expected to pick up to 46mph today, leading to the warning of more fires.
