China launches crackdown on vice
China launched a three-month crackdown on prostitution as part of a countrywide effort to clean up organised gang crime ahead of the communist regime’s 60th anniversary on October 1.
The state-run China Daily newspaper reported today that the crackdown, led by various government security bureaus, will target individuals and groups that introduce women to prostitution.
It will also tackle operators of entertainment venues that permit prostitution and anyone who conducts illegal activities with minors.
Growing joblessness has been linked to a spike in gang crimes, prompting the Ministry of Public Security to create a special division focused on organised prostitution, gambling, drug production and trafficking.
