13 reported killed in Iran clashes

Thirteen people were killed in violent clashes between police and “terrorist groups”, Iranian state television reported today.

The report did not specify how the deaths occurred, but earlier reports stated that several people were killed on Saturday when “rioters” attacked a mosque in western Tehran.

Today’s report on Iran English language station said “rioters” set two gas stations on fire and attacked a military post.

Tehran was wracked by violence on Saturday as security forces clashed with supporters of Mir Hossein Mousavi, who claims he won the June 12 presidential election.

The report was the second confirmation of deaths since unrest began. State media said seven people were killed early in the week.
