Suspect in Sri Lanka cricket attack arrested
Pakistani police say they have made their first arrest in the attack on Sri Lanka’s cricket team in the eastern city of Lahore in March.
Lahore police Chief Pervez Rathore today said the suspect was a member of a banned militant organisation, but refused to name the group.
On March 2, up to 14 gunmen sprayed the Sri Lankan cricket team’s bus with bullets and fired a rocket and a grenade as it travelled to a match against Pakistan in Lahore, wounding seven players and killing six police.
Chief Rathore said six other suspects have fled to Pakistan’s tribal region along the border with Afghanistan, where al Qaida and the Taliban are believed to have havens.
