'Rockefeller' set to appeal against conviction

Lawyers for a German who calls himself Clark Rockefeller said they would appeal against his kidnapping conviction, calling it "the first chapter" in the case.

Lawyer Jeffrey Denner told 'The Early Show' on CBS that he was also considering filing a motion for a new trial, but would not say on what grounds.

Rockefeller (aged 48) whose real name is Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter, assumed various identities after coming to the US three decades ago.

He was jailed for more than four years after being convicted by a jury in Boston, Massachusetts, on Friday, of snatching his seven-year-old daughter Reigh Boss, who lives with Gerhartsreiter's ex-wife in London, from a Boston street during a supervised visit last July.

Gerhartsreiter then fled to Baltimore with the girl.

He is also considered a person of interest in the 1985 disappearance of a California couple. A grand jury is investigating that case.

Gerhartsreiter's lawyers had said he was suffering from a delusional disorder and legally insane when he kidnapped his daughter, but prosecutors said he was a conman and consummate liar.
