'Rockefeller' jurors seek insanity plea advice

Jurors in the kidnap trial of the German who calls himself Clark Rockefeller ended a third day of deliberations yesterday after asking the judge’s advice regarding an insanity defence.

The jury in Boston, Massachusetts, sent a written question to Judge Frank Gaziano yesterday asking if prosecutors had to prove that Rockefeller, whose real name is Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter, knew what he was doing was criminal or morally wrong.

The judge told the panel the prosecution must prove both.

Defence lawyers say Gerhartsreiter was delusional and legally insane when he fled to Baltimore with his seven-year-old daughter Reigh Boss, who lives with her mother in London.

The alleged kidnapping happened during a supervised visit in Boston last July after Gerhartsreiter lost custody of the girl to his ex-wife Sandra.
