British Employment Minister quits over expenses
The UK's Employment Minister Tony McNulty resigned from the British government today in the wake of controversy over his expenses.
The Harrow East MP sat in Cabinet until he was sidelined in Gordon Brownâs make-or-break reshuffle.
Mr McNulty has faced criticism for claiming thousands of pounds in expenses against a London property where his parents lived.
Police have been considering whether to launch a formal probe after receiving a complaint that his actions may have amounted to âobtaining pecuniary advantage by deceptionâ.
The Parliamentary Standards Commissioner is also investigating his arrangements.
Mr McNulty has denied any wrongdoing, but last week it emerged that he was repaying more than ÂŁ3,000 in mortgage interest and council tax which had been overclaimed.
