Playing children discover human skulls in India

Police in northern India say they have found nearly 100 human skulls and other skeletal remains in a dried-up pond.

Police in northern India say they have found nearly 100 human skulls and other skeletal remains in a dried-up pond.

Officials said today initial investigations indicate that they are the remains of unclaimed bodies dumped by police to avoid the hassles of organising cremations or burials, and are not the victims of a mass killing.

The grisly find was discovered by children playing in a pond that had dried up over the summer in Aligarh, a city some 75 miles southeast of New Delhi.

Aligarh police chief Aseem Arun said 98 skulls and other bones have been found.
