Storms prevent shuttle from landing in Florida

Thunderstorms are again spoiling Nasa’s landing plans for space shuttle Atlantis.

Mission Control decided this morning to skip the day’s first landing attempt at Kennedy Space Centre in Florida.

The seven astronauts were instructed to take another spin around the world as flight controllers considered additional attempts in both Florida and California.

Storms at Kennedy Space Centre ruined Friday’s landing opportunities, too.

The astronauts are trying to wind up their successful trip to the Hubble Space Telescope.

It was Nasa’s last repair job at the 19-year-old observatory. The $1bn (€750m) overhaul should keep the telescope working for another five to 10 years.

Atlantis rocketed into orbit 12 days ago.
