UN calls for Suu Kyi release
The UN Security Council has today called for the release of all political prisoners in Burma, including Burmese pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
Expressing concern at the “political impact” of Suu Kyi’s current trial, a press statement agreed today by all 15 council members reiterated the need for Burma’s military rulers “to create the necessary conditions for a genuine dialogue” with Suu Kyi and other opposition and minority groups “to achieve an inclusive national reconciliation”.
