A 57-year-old pilot failed a breathalyser test after being stopped at Heathrow airport just before he was due to operate a transatlantic flight, it was revealed today.

A 57-year-old pilot failed a breathalyser test after being stopped at Heathrow airport just before he was due to operate a transatlantic flight, it was revealed today.

Concerned airport security staff had alerted police as the pilot – believed to be Joseph Crites – was about to board an American Airlines flight to Chicago with 204 passengers on board.
