First case of swine flu in Belguim

Belgium’s Ministry of Health has today confirmed the country’s first case of swine flu.

Authorities at the ministry reported the case Wednesday after weeks of negative tests on dozens of patients.

Health Ministry spokeswoman Saar Vanderplaetsen refused to offer more details, including whether the victim had travelled to hard-hit countries such as the United States and Mexico.

The case made Belgium the 34th country where the disease has been diagnosed.
