Fidel Castro is defending Cuba’s government-controlled press by arguing that even in countries guaranteeing freedom of the press, coverage is manipulated by those wealthy enough to finance newsgathering.

The 82-year-old ex-president wrote that “today, only through gigantic investments can you provide centres that produce the news for the whole planet”.
