Man works three years without day off
A record-breaking hotel employee in India has not taken a single day off work in the past three years.
K Vijayan has worked for 1,100 days without missing work or taking any weekly days off as a night auditor at the Surya Palace Hotel in Vadodara, Gujarat.
The 59-year-old, whose shift begins at 11pm and ends at 9am, said the Guinness Book of World Records had acknowledged his achievement.
"I had read about such records in newspapers a few months ago. It occurred to me that I had not taken a single day off for years and decided to approach the Guinness Book of World Records," Mr Vijayan told the Times of India.
He went through the attendance register at work and found that he had not taken any leave or weekly days off for 1,100 nights. In March, he contacted the Guinness Book authorities and informed them of his achievement.
The officials reportedly checked their records and found that no one held the world record in that category. "They acknowledged my achievement and sent me procedural forms," Mr Vijayan added.
He said he was waiting to receive his certificate from the organisation.
Piyush Shah, his employer and owner of the hotel, said: "I am proud to have a dedicated employee like Vijayan. He has been with us for the past 13 years and has never given us a chance to complain."
He added that his hard-working employee had been asked to take leave but refused. "I often tell him to take holidays, but he always refuses."
His wife Mrudula said: "I never objected or argued with him. He has always been dedicated to his work and I am proud of him.
"Also, he does fulfil all his personal commitments despite a hectic work schedule," she added.
