Irishman misses out on ‘best job in the world’
Irishman George Karellas has missed out on the dream job as caretaker of a tropical Australian island.
Around 35,000 people from around the world applied for the "best job in the world" when it was advertised by the Australian authorities in recent months.
The job involves enjoying the attractions around Hamilton Island before writing a blog about the experience.
Thirty-one-year-old Karellas, from Bettystown in Co Meath, made it into the last-16 in the interview process, but lost out to a British charity worker when the winning candidate was announced this morning.
The winner receives return air fares, free accommodation in a luxury three-bedroom house and a salary of around €75,000 for six months' work.
