Gunmen ambush Thai protest leader

The founder of Thailand’s “yellow shirt” protest movement that shut down Bangkok airports last year was wounded by gunmen today in an attack his supporters said was politically motivated.

Sondhi Limthongkul was being driven to work before dawn when at least two men in a pick-up truck ambushed his car and opened fire with an M16 and an AK47, first aiming to shoot out the tyres and then spraying the vehicle with bullets, said police Maj Gen King Kwangvisetchaichai.
