A dead crocodile was found beside a river in the German capital today, police said.

A dead crocodile was found beside a river in the German capital today, police said.

A statement said officers discovered the 4ft (1.2m) animal lying in grass on the bank of the Havel river in Berlin’s Spandau district.

It was unclear where it came from.

Police came equipped with a lasso to capture the reptile but quickly realised that it was not moving. It was taken away in a body bag.

Officers said bystanders could give no information about where the crocodile came from.
