French fishermen block ferry service
Protesting French fishermen blockaded Boulogne port today forcing a ferry service from England to be cancelled.
Fishing association head Marc Perrault said several dozen trawlers were blocking the entrance to the port in a dispute over quotas.
He warned that the action could spread to nearby ports.
LD lines, which runs ferries between Boulogne and Dover, said it had cancelled its afternoon ferry because of the action.
Boulogne’s chamber of commerce said trucks that operate out of the port, delivering merchandise throughout Europe, have been prevented from leaving.
The fishermen claim the catch quotas are too low and prevent them from making a decent living.
