London Underground (LU) has started an investigation into a near-miss between two rush-hour Tube trains, it was announced today.

The incident, at around 6pm last Friday, involved a Piccadilly line train and a District line train near Ealing Broadway station in west London.

It is understood that the driver of the District line train, which had stopped after going through a red signal, had been given permission to move on when the Piccadilly line train crossed the track immediately in front of him.

It is also believed that a signalman has been relieved of his duties following the incident.
