At least 15 killed in train crash

A train crash in central Tanzania has killed at least 15 people, according to an official.

William Lukuvi said a stationary passenger train was hit by a goods train in the town of Dodoma at around midday today.

Mr Lukuvi is the town’s regional commissioner.

Mr Lukuvi said the line has been closed and cranes have been ordered to move the wreckage and retrieve bodies which are still trapped inside.

He said the death toll may rise.

An investigation has begun into the crash and the wounded have been taken to hospital.
