Sacked Pakistani Supreme Court chief justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry was reinstated to his post following months of pressure from the opposition, it was reported today.

Supporters carrying balloons headed to Mr Chaudhry’s home in Lahore to celebrate. It is hoped the move will end the political crisis surrounding a three-week power tussle between President Asif Ali Zardari and opposition leader Nawaz Sharif.
