Octuplets mother vows to stay mum over father

The woman who gave birth to octuplets apologised in a video to the father of all 14 of her children and promised that she would never reveal his identity.

“I’m sorry for all this mess, and I hope he isn’t scared it’ll come out because it won’t,” Nadya Suleman said in the RadarOnline.com video.

“As far as I’m concerned, I’ll never disclose who he is.”

Ms Suleman said the man was a foreign-born California resident in his 30s, but did not disclose his current address.

He was a friend who would make a good father, Ms Suleman said, adding that their seven-year-old son Elijah resembled him.

She said he was speechless when she told him how many children she was carrying, and then he asked Ms Suleman if the doctor knew she already had many children.

The 33-year-old unemployed single mother gave birth to octuplets on January 26. They were born nine weeks premature and are the world’s longest-surviving set of octuplets. She already had six children, aged two to seven.

Meanwhile, two more of Ms Suleman’s babies, Maliyah and Nariyah, were sent home yesterday.

Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Medical Centre said the two girls, each weighing about 5lb 2oz, were discharged privately at Ms Suleman’s request.

The remaining four babies remain in the neo-natal intensive care unit and were doing well, the hospital said.

The release of the first two octuplets was a chaotic media event, as onlookers converged on the Suleman home in Los Angeles on Tuesday night and photographers in a frenzy clung to the Sulemans’ car as it pulled into the driveway.

Ms Suleman called police to complain about the paparazzi and express concern for her children’s safety.
