Five witnesses for Kercher trial

The trial of two people charged with the murder of Meredith Kercher resumed in the Italian city of Perugia today with a witness describing a meeting with the accused on the night the British student was killed.

Five people are scheduled to give evidence today at the trial of US student Amanda Knox and her former Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito. They are accused of killing Meredith, Knox’s roommate, on November 1, 2007. Her body was found November 2.

Witness Jovana Popovic of Serbia said Sollecito had agreed to drive her to a bus station in Perugia on the night of the murder. Popovic said she changed her plans and went to Sollecito’s house at 8.40pm to tell him she no longer needed to go.

Prosecutors believed Kercher died between 9pm and 11pm on November 1.
