A dormitory for railway workers has collapsed in eastern China, killing nine people and leaving four others missing. At least 21 people were injured.

China’s official Xinhua News Agency said the nine workers died in hospital after the collapse today in Danyang city of Jiangsu province.

It said 21 people were being treated for injuries.

The report said rescuers were continuing to search for the missing and police were investigating the cause of the collapse.

The workers were labouring on a line between Shanghai and Nanjing, 170 miles to the northwest.
