Church service for Tsvangirai's wife

A small church service was under way in Zimbabwe today for the wife of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, who was killed in a car crash last week.

Susan Tsvangirai’s body was being taken to a stadium later today for a memorial service.

The state-run Herald newspaper reported that President Robert Mugabe was to attend the church service, and that the government was helping to pay the funeral costs.

Zimbabwe’s long history of political violence blamed on Mugabe’s forces fuelled speculation that Friday’s crash, in which the Prime Minister was slightly injured, was not an accident.

Mr Tsvangirai tried to quell the rumours yesterday, saying at a news conference that there was “no foul play” involved.
