Tsvangirai returns to Zimbabwe after crash

Zimbabwe’s prime minister was heading home to resume his duties today after receiving medical treatment in Botswana.

Morgan Tsvangirai was injured in a car crash last week in which his wife, Susan, was killed.

A spokesman said Mr Tsvangirai was returning to Harare today because that is what his wife would have wanted.

He arrived in Botswana on Saturday, a day after the crash.

He also spent months there last year, fearing for his life at the height of a stand-off with President Robert Mugabe – the man with whom he formed a joint government last month.

Thousands of Zimbabweans have visited Mr Tsvangirai’s Harare home to offer their condolences.

Plans were underway for a rally in his wife’s honour tomorrow and her funeral on Wednesday.
