Police probe Mandelson 'slime' attack
Police launched an inquiry tonight into a green “slime” attack on UK Business Secretary Peter Mandelson by a climate change protester.
The Cabinet minister was attacked as he arrived at a summit to launch his government’s low carbon industrial strategy.
Mandelson, who was caught in the face seconds after getting out of his ministerial car, dismissed the incident as an “adolescent prank”.
Leila Deen, 29, of campaign group Plane Stupid, launched her attack before walking away unchallenged.
She told reporters afterwards that she was protesting over a reported meeting between Mandelson and lobbyists for Heathrow owner BAA.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Police are investigating circumstances surrounding an incident in Carlton House Terrace, SW1, at about 8am today.
“Officers from Westminster CID investigate. There have been no arrests. No complaint has been received.”
