Shortlist made for 'world's best job' in Australia

Australian tourism officials shortlisted 200 applicants out of nearly 35,000 who submitted video applications for a dream job as caretaker of a tropical island.

But an overload of last-minute applications before the February 23 deadline slowed the system and Tourism Queensland acknowledged today that its website could not handle all of the uploads.

Chief executive Anthony Hayes said, “regretfully some people weren’t able to get their video application in on time”.

The job offers a salary of 150,000 Australian dollars (€76,127) to relax on Hamilton Island in the Great Barrier Reef for six months while writing a blog to promote the island.

The winner will be announced on May 6.
